The Foundation is interested in new initiatives in the fields of environmental programs, of education and/or of non-fiction writing. We also look for projects that have an element of community-building and network-creation in the goals.
We consider requests for grants up to $35,000 and we do not in general give multi-year commitments. Nor do we give grants that will go entirely towards conferences, capital campaigns, pure research, endowments or general operations.
The first step in applying for a grant is submitting a short 500-word description of your program. After these proposals are reviewed, a full application form will be sent to the groups whose projects we’d like to consider further. The board assesses these applications.
The next deadline for proposals is March 9, 2026, and earlier submissions are welcomed.
We’re mindful of making the process efficient for charities, so we’re requiring that proposals answer three key questions:
- What is the need that your work addresses, and what is the evidence for this need?
- Why is your group well-equipped to address this need? (Perhaps you can reference past achievements).
- Summarize the details of how your program would work, and describe how will you measure success.
Proposals may be submitted in French or English.
Please send your 500 word (maximum) description of your program to jim@thechawkersfoundation.org.
